Stewardship Resources

Our focus is to raise awareness of biblical stewardship - to challenge congregations to greater commitment. We offer ministry resources that will assist corps leadership in educating their congregation. It is our desire to assist corps/churches in organizing, energizing and equipping local leadership, enabling them to effectively communicate the principles of Christian stewardship

Why Does Our Corps Need to Invest in this Ministry?

Every committed follower of Christ should want to share the love of God. It is both a responsibility and a privilege. This can best be accomplished by sharing the resources which God has entrusted to us: our Time, Talents & Treasures.

We are called to biblically disciple our congregations. Unfortunately, stewardship is an often neglected area that creates spiritual “holes” in our own lives. It also creates congregations that lack leaders and churches that are struggling financially. Therefore, we need to be taught, encouraged and challenged to invest these resources sacrificially and proportionately into the ministry of Kingdom building.

What are the Benefits?

  • 1. The Bible shows us that God’s people are not to be mere consumers. That is the reason for the Tithe and the Sabbath. Even Jesus’ model prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread…” implies that God’s people are to trust God for their provisions rather than themselves.(Article: “The Consumer Trap” by Doug Pagitt)

  • 2. Stewardship Education is about growing God’s people, not growing church budgets. The goal is to grow fully mature followers of Jesus who are faithful stewards of His resources, invested in increasing His Kingdom and who through their giving, experience His pleasure in their lives while storing up treasures in heaven. (Article: “Faith Raising, Not Fund Raising” by Forrest Reinhardt)

  • 3. I…want you to be leaders also in the spirit of cheerful giving…this is one way to prove that your love is real, that it goes beyond mere words. (II Cor. 8:7-8)

  • 4. Our corps need vision toward mission outreach. This starts within.

  • 5. The future of our Army is dependent on the actions of the members today.

  • 6. The corps must now be able to show its good works rather than assume that everyone who comes knows what it does.

  • 7. A corps has nothing to lose with this focus - their people are better educated about a part of God's Word that is often neglected. The people are challenged, and they are given an opportunity to give more in all areas of their lives

  • 8. People come forward with other gifts that they have not historically been willing to share - (talents, time ) - that the church can use to further God's Kingdom.

  • 9. Increased resources for increased ministry .

  • 10. Become more self-sufficient .

Stewardship is another word for discipleship, and discipleship is a way of life. Leading a congregation to discover that way of life is among the greatest privileges given by God to church leaders (Becoming a Firstfruits Congregation, Robert C. Heerspink).

It is our prayer that every corps in this territory will give a greater emphasis to biblical stewardship. Let’s not forget our purpose as His church it is to carry out the great commission. If we preach the Word, He will energize the Word and ignite the passion in us to share His love with others.
