1 - My Creed (Creation)
Summary: Most people today think that the theory of evolution is a fact. It is certainly taught as fact i our schools and yet it is still an unproven theory. What is most confusing is that many of us do not know how to reconcile the evidence of nature with the brief account of creation in Genesis. In this lesson, the aim is simply to recognize that God did create our world, while recognizing that we cannot understand everything about how he did it.
Aims: develop a Christian viewpoint on the origin of life, understand the purpose of the Bible's account of creation
Summary: In this lesson, Genesis 1 will be examined and compared with the available scientific information. We have learned much and have still much to learn from our universe for it retains marks of God's creation. The more we discover from what we can observe and understand, the more aware we are of the greatness of God our Creator.
Aims: understand their responsibility to care for the environment, commit to care for one aspect of the environment better
Summary: Every part of our world gives marvelous evidence of creative activity. A deliberate act has brought into being the amazing order, variety and intricacy of our world. The beautiful world we live in belongs to God. We are but the custodians of its wealth. If we selfishly abuse our forests, our rivers, our air and our wildlife, God will hold us accountable. We can all play an important role in preventing and trying to reverse the environmental damage.
Aims: understand the God made them in his image and loves them, recognize that we ought to treat each other with respect because each of us are special to God
Summary:It is our task as youth leaders to remind young people that they are unique; that they are valued; and that God created them for his glory and honour. We need to remind them to consider God's view of them in Jesus Christ. This lesson will impress upon them that God has created them in his image
5 - Who's The Boss? (Equality)
Aims: examine what the Bible says about gender equality, learn about The Salvation Army's position on equality of men and women in worth and value
Summary: God created man from the dust of the earth. He formed woman from the rib of the man. The method of creation of woman emphasizes the unity of the whole human race. This unity of humankind is a vital doctrine of Scripture - "From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them". (Acts 17:26)
6 - Matchmaker, matchmaker... (Marriage)
Aims:understand God's intentions for male/female relationships, choose to develop friendships
Summary: In our world the nature of the sexual relationship between a woman and man has been reduced by the media to an animal/instinctive action: the deep relationship that God intended has been all but removed from any presentation of sexual relationship. Today will give you an opportunity to point out that God has a different plan, and that this sexual relationship is a sacred trust.
7 - The Devil Made Me Do It! (The Fall)
Aims: recognize the reality of satan and his tactics, understand the disobeying God is sin
Summary: Although temptation is inescapable, it is not God who tempts us. Much like the serpent in Genesis 3, Satan still finds extremely subtle and creative ways to lure us into disobedience. Though Satan promises what he can never deliver, we fall for it because we think we will be better off.
8 - Run For Your Life! (Temptation)
Aims: discover practical ways of avoiding sin, seek God's help to resist temptation
Summary: Young people are more easily frustrated and discouraged by their temptations and sins, and are inexperienced in dealing with them. Whether it's helping a friend cheat on a test, or considering alcohol or drugs, the number of temptations young people face are increasing. To make things worse the world suggests that resisting is silly, a waste of time - why struggle with the inevitable? This misunderstanding can leave young people thinking they can't do anything; that they are not in control. Young people need to recognize that they need help from God to overcome temptation. They need to be reminded that they can count on God's grace and strength to resist. God promises to provide his strength to triumph. Our responsibility is not to prove our own strength but to keep close to God so that we will recognize his ways of escape and flee temptation.
9 - Snakes and Ladders (Salvation)
Aims: understand the need for a remedy for sin, recognize that their life in Christ is a re-creation, commit or recommit their lives to Christ
Summary: The key verse in this lesson speaks of becoming a new creation in Christ. God's remedy for sin is new life in Christ. Reconciliation to him through the forgiveness we can receive because of Jesus' death on the cross. Take this opportunity to challenge your young people concerning their relationship with Jesus.
10 - 'Give It Up' for God (Response)
Aims: discover the true attitude of worship, discover the place and power of worship in their lives
Summary: Worship is centered an individual's personal relationship with God. This expression of worship can be silent, verbal, or physical. There are many expressions of worship: silent contemplation of God's creation, his Word and his being; verbal participation by speaking his Word, sharing experiences, both personal and in the Word; physical participation in creative movement and making music.
